The Type 15 features a welded steel hull and turret, designed to provide protection against small arms fire, artillery shell fragments, and certain types of anti-tank munitions. It is equipped with modular composite armor, providing improved protection compared to older light tanks. The main armament of the Type 15 is a 105mm rifled gun, capable of firing a variety of ammunition types including armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot (APFSDS), high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT), and high-explosive fragmentation (HE-FRAG) rounds. It also features a coaxial 7.62mm machine gun and a roof-mounted remotely operated weapon station (ROWWS) for additional firepower.
