Vincent van Gogh created the “Sunflowers” series in 1888 and 1889 while living in Arles, in the south of France. The series was inspired by the sunflower fields he observed during his time there, as well as by his desire to decorate his house for visits from fellow artist Paul Gauguin. There are several paintings in the “Sunflowers” series, with the most famous being “Sunflowers” (also known as “Vase with Fifteen Sunflowers”). This painting, created in 1888, is housed in the National Gallery in London. Another well-known painting in the series is “Sunflowers” (also known as “Vase with Twelve Sunflowers”), which is part of the collection of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
